The best chocolate I’ve tasted…
…and its from right here in the Auckland region!
My partner knows how much I love wine and had got us tickets along with some friends to the Winetopia event in Auckland. Such a great event with wall-to-wall wine tastings in a great setting, where you can find some epic brands from both mainstream and independent vineyards all under one roof. I had a quick walkaround the Australian section and had a couple of nice reds but I was destined for the New Zealand section because we are all about shopping local at Gift My Best. While I tried some amazing wine but oddly I just wasn’t drawn to buy any wine… UNHEARD of!
As the event was closing, I walked past the Foundry Chocolate stall and they were finishing up so I had a chat with the owner of the company who was telling me all about their ‘bean-to-bar’ concept and even said, if I wanted to know more I could drop them a message on Insta. So nice! They were doing one last chocolate tasting for the day and boy-oh-boy, I am so glad I got the chance to give it a go.
Trying all 6 of their core single origin chocolate 70% dark chocolate, plus a couple of the special releases – I immediately got my groove back. The subtle and overt differences in the 6 single origin chocolate bars were unbelievable and I definitely savoured every shard of chocolate given to me. It blew my mind that these 2 ingredient bars could have such different flavour-profiles just based on where the bean came from.
My eftpos card was out before I even got done with the last taste test! I had another chat as I selected my favourites and found out that the beautifully designed packaging was their own design and went to great lengths to get it just right. When you open a bar, you definitely get to see how well thought out it is.
When I was making gift boxes for family and friends that Christmas, Foundry Chocolate was on the list and I ordered all the bars I needed, they arrived so nicely with a hand written note to say thank you for my purchase and I knew that these chocolate bars had to become a core component of my gift boxes in my new business because every time I have a nibble of their amazing single origin bars, I’m just in my happy place!
